Anyone know a good shock collar for training a dog?

I usually opt for positive training methods but in this case a shock collar appears to be the best solution. Let me know.

Dogtra 1900 NCP, one of the best around. Please do not listen to those ignorant enough not to even research how an E collar works or the benefits one can provide for a dog/handler relationship. None have any idea of how they are used by many pounds and shelters to train dogs that would otherwise be killed. Hope I helped.

Since you didnt state what behavioral problems you are having, it is tough to tell you what course of action you should take. There are several people here who have good info on training, but would need more details.

As for the shock collar..it is cruel and inhumane. I think people should be made to wear one before they put it on their dog…just to see how they like it. Personally , i would never consider it an option.

ADD:@ Greek God: What shelters are you talking about exactly? I have worked for the humane society and the SPCA as a technician and animal officer, and any MORON caught using a shock collar in any of our shelters would have been out on their a**! All of our shelters had canine and feline behaviorists on staff, and I know NONE of them would ever even consider it.

Put the shock collar or yourself first and give some sadist the controls, see how you feel.

You will not teach a dog like that, I hope you have a Rottweiler or a German Shepherd that mauls you after you shock it.

If you resort to that type of crap you obviously can’t train a dog properly, therefore you do not deserve the privilege of owning such a great animal.

go to petsmart.com and it will show you different kinds and review on what the buyers say. i bought a shock collar before just to bring my dog inside the house after playing out side he always ran away from me i used it like 5 times and never used it again ill let him to come here, he wouldnt listen so i tap it 3 times then he’ll come than ill praise him GOOD BOY, give him a treat and while his in the house play with him so he wont get bored i notice he wouldnt come in because he thought the fun would end but now he know wen i call him its because he going to have fun ether way so now i could walk down the street with no leash( i dont do it tho) he stays beside me. i dont recommend always using the e collar just for the beginning. i used to try everything i even went to training school with him but the ecollar is what worked

Shock collars are cruel and inhumane. If you get one, put it on yourself to see how it feels. My guess is you are a thug with a pit bull who is being trained to be aggressive. Shame on you, get a better life and give your dog to a good home that will treat him right.

NO shelter or rescue would ever use a shock collar, that’s just completely untrue –

If you don’t know how to train your dog, enroll in group obedience classes with a decent trainer, not some clerk at a pet store. You will learn how to train your dog properly instead of using some sadistic "shock" collar. That’s the crutch of the lazy and dumb, no decent trainer in the world would resort to such a sickening shortcut. I’ve worked with dogs for many years, and know the best trainers in this county. Our shelters and Animal Services all work together, and we actually
train our rescue and personal dogs, we don’t torture them into submission.

If you can’t deal with a dog with issues, get help or give him to someone who knows what they’re doing.

I see our resident "expert" is back — and dead wrong as usual. I doubt he ever went near a shelter, he sure has no clue as to how dogs are treated or trained in a normal situation.
