Anyone with a Beagle use a shock collar?
I have a 2 year old beagle who’s outside all day and barks constantly. The neighbors complained to the police and we received a notice. Has anyone with a Beagle ever used a shock collar?? If so, does it work?

Why is the dog outside all day? Why did you get a dog in the first place?!? That is just awful.
Take the dog to walks, dog parks, and neighborhood meetups with friendly dogs. Beagles crave interaction with other dogs, they were bred to hunt in packs. You actually need to train the dog if you want to modify its behavior, so how about putting some actual effort into owning a dog? A shock collar may work when properly introduced and used correctly, but this is a lot more difficult then you think. Your dog is better off being send off to live with your relatives in Iowa than to spend his days in your backyard lonely and bored, or being zapped every time he does what he was bred to do.

They do, in fact, work. And if you’re worried about your dog getting zapped everytime it barks, don’t be. After about 6 months to 1 year with the shock collar, you can remove it and the dog will behave.

You mean a "bark-collar"???
The good ones work GREAT!
They TEACH dogs to shuddup.
Far better option than killing a pathological barker.
NOT BREED SPECIFIC,folks!
Even beagles can be TRAINED! THOUSANDS *ARE*! When owned by rational adults!
Babbling is MAJOR FAULT!!!

I wouldn’t do that to a Beagle. They have been breed to be very vocal. It would be like shocking a golden retrieiver when it jumped in the water. If it did work beagles have been known to develop behavioral and mental problems as a result of collars that shock them when they bark. Your beagle will be a nervous wreck for the rest of it’s life if you do that to him.

My uncle has a lab and his dog use to bark constantly. So he bought this shock collar at Petmarts, that only goes off whenever the dog barks 2 or 3 times in a row. After a couple months the dog didn’t have to wear it anymore..But since a beagle is smaller you might want to ask an employee how high you should set the voltage of the shock. Dont want to hurt the doggy! Hope everything works out!

I’ll check with my neighbor who’s Beagle runs loose down the road chasing rabbits, digging under fences, eating from trash cans, sporting his shock collar…
My guess would be the collar is as good as the dummy holding the remote.

Not getting into the cruelty debate a shock collar for a beagle is a bad idea.
This is a breed meant to be as loud as possible. The breed runs rabbits in the woods kills them and has to alert the hunter to their location. Same reason they have white tipped tails it’s a trait to make them good hunting dogs.
My parents have two beagles and they are LOUD when they do bark.( which thankfully isn’t as much as they used to) Their vet ( I use her too) is very against shock collars for beagles because it does not work. These dogs are very smart but they can harms themselves with shock collars by barking too much. Same thing with those electric invisible fences they just don’t work with beagles.
Providing them with something to do can help. They’re a dog that likes to "work" having something to do keeps them from getting bored. The beagles mom and dad keep do bark but once you let them know that there is no reason to bark they give it up really quickly. They don’t bark at cars as much as they used to.
Best thing to do is consult your vet for some training tips. What ever training method you decide to go with stick with it strictly. They’re amazing beautiful dogs but stubborn as hell.

No they dont work you have to be there to use them!
What was the point of getting a dog if all you are going to do is stick it outside and not train it?
Your dog is barking because its bored and wants attention and exercise – if you are not prepared to care for the dog properly rehome it to someone who will care for it

Maybe the dog needs some exercise, training and attention. You don’t just stick a dog in the back yard and expect it to train itself.

Shock collars are straight up ABUSE. It is not the proper way to train your dog, your dog can come out with even more serious behavioral issues from getting shocked. This is definitely not for a beagle. Beagles are very food motivated, and a good show to watch is It’s me or the dog for training tips. The links will give you information about shock collars.
