dog shock collars brands?

this is not do you like them or not! im not a fan of them but i am at my whits end with my 100 lbs german shepherd jumping my fence. i used to be able to stand outside with her and she would stay in the yard. but i cant always stand there so i got a 30ft tie out. well she figured out how to get out of it. i want my dog to be able to run in the yard so i dont really want to just go buy a harness which would be cheap and easy. i want to teach her not to jump the fence. she has started jumping it even with me out there now. im wondering what brand you have used for a shock collar and if you liked it the reviews of ones i have seen are bad. i dont want to spend 200 bucks on something i hopefully only have to use for maybe a week
it is not an obidience issues for those who are wondering also she is extreamly obedient other than the fence. we also can not alter the fence or put anything on it since we are renting and we have small children. i have tried being out with her and she used to stay in but now she does not. i have also attempted the taking her for walks and about 4-5 houses down she starts panicing and wants to go home. but i appreciate any ideas

I’m certainly not a fan of one either, but in your case I would definitely get one.
If you don’t already belong to yahoogroups.com, join (it’s free) and go to DOGSHOWSTUFF@yahoogroups.com. There is usually stuff like this on sale there for a good price. Otherwise, try ebay, or http://www.kvpet.com, or http://www.PetEdge.com both of these web sites have good prices on anything related to dogs.

Best advice is to only have her outside when you can be out there with her. This dog isn’t getting enough exercise. She’s doing this out of boredom. Run her a mile or two a day, and the behaviors will probably stop.

I like innotek brand the best we use them all time in our police / military dog training facility.

Put hotwire along the top of the fence.

You will probably only spend $50 for everything, and it has worked with every escape artist I have ever had.

Most dogs will not touch it more than twice, and then you can turn it off.

Any decent shock collar is going to cost more than $200, and you need to learn how to use it. Hotwire simply teaches the dog to avoid the fence.

You can put hotwire up without damaging the fence, and simply take it down when you move. I have moved mine around several times, depending on where I am keeping the dogs.

If you put it at the top of the fence, then small children will not be able to reach it. Even if they should touch it, it will not seriously hurt them (although they will also learn to avoid it.) My kids grew up with hotwire on all our fences, since I had horses that would lean over them.

TriTronics or Dogtra, but the cheapest ones are about $170. And if you buy cheaper models from unknown names, I don’t know how well they work.

You MAY want to consider getting an electronic fence to put inside the perimeter of your current fence. It’s bit of an investment, but if you move, you can remove the main part of the unit (which is the expensive part along with the collar) and restring the wire at your new place for very cheap.
