Dog will not stop barking/growling at every little noise: What is wrong with what I'm doing?

She growls/barks, I send her to her "bed" (crate) for a short time out – so she does it from the crate. Then I try telling her "NO" but she still does it. If we’re expecting company I put the dogs in the bedroom so that when they knock on the door they aren’t overwhelmed with barking dogs. I got a citronella bark collar and it only worked sometimes. When the collar did work it surprised her, but as soon as we took it off (had to send it to be repaired) the barking started back up again. I’m looking forward to getting our collar back, lol, but until then what do I do??? I love my dog, but she is really making me not like her at all. This morning the bug man came over to spray. I put her in her crate and she sat in there while he and I were talking and barked the entire time. What am I doing wrong??? I’ll do what has to be done, I just don’t know what it is that has to be done. I’ve asked this question tons of times on here and have followed every last bit of advice and none of it has worked. Please, someone who is truly experienced with this – please help!

I use the quiet & place command.

Place: It’s a simple bath mat in a general area of the house where they can go to calm down. Leash the dog, say place, take her over and put her in a sit/stay. Repeat until she understands to do it without the leash. She should be allowed to greet visitors – but only when you give the OK. So when the doorbell rings – put her in "place" – YOU greet the visitor/worker, and then you can release her to greet them and send her back to her "place" if you want.

Quiet: More difficult to train – at least for me – but teach her how to speak and then teach her how to be quiet. So when she isn’t speaking – that is quiet. If she starts barking say "quiet" – and if she isn’t quiet, send her to her "place" and say quiet again.

I have 5 dogs, and they bark when we get home and don’t stop till we come inside, and if im here and hubby or anyone pulls in they do same thing. I use a fly swatter and they become afraid of it and when they see it they stop. BUT the first few times you have to swat them with it, it will not hurt them. I tryed the bark coller on mine and it didn’t work at all for mine. but yet a fly swatter as soon as they see me get it they stop and hide lol. good luck!!!

The barking/growling denotes lack of proper socialization or bad temperament, a genetic problem.
It could also be lack of realistic obedience training on your part.
Have you ever trained this dog, does she know that you are in charge of the house? If not, start now and follow a program based on reward and compulsion, koehler dog training is a great place to start.

The collar that you mention does not work, you need an Electric bark collar that will make her stop the barking when it is on. If you train her properly with it, she will not know when it is on or not.
Dogtra.com sells great bark collars. Hope I helped!
