If your dog is prone to nuisance barking and it bothers you, your family, friends and neighbors and nothing you do helps, then a <a href="http://barkcollarsfordogs.biz/amazon-com/" target=_"blank">bark suppression collar would be a good choice. It is a safe and effective way to train your dog to curb his or her excessive barking.

Remember, barking is a normal behavior for dogs, its how they talk. They may bark to attract attention, to communicate a message, or to express excitement. A lot of us dog owners encourage our pets to speak (bark) by rewarding their bark with a treat. They also bark because of stress, anxiety, or loneliness so punishment can often cause problems by reinforcing a cycle of undesirable behavior.

In walked the anti bark dog collar…
The use of a <a href="http://www.tractorsupply.com/pet-care/dog-products/dog-training/bark-collars-for-dogs/" target=_"blank">anti bark collar is not to punish your pet, it’s use is to train them. Once you have determined the reason for your dogs nuisance barking, you can plan on a course of training that will reduce it. <a href="http://www.seefido.com/html/anti_dog_barking_store.htm" target=_"blank">Bark collars come with a set or instructions for that particular collar describing the training methods to use. Every dog responds differently to the bark control collars and you will have to experiment to find the right course of training.

How long will my dog have to wear the collar?
There is no good answer to that question. It has a lot to do with the reason for the excessive barking, the dogs breed, their age, personality and other factors. Be patient, experiment, treat your pet with kindness and encouragement and you will get the control you seek.

Once your dogs behavior is under control you can remove the anti bark collar. To maintain control the collar may have to be put back on now an then.

You have three types to choose from.
There are three types of bark suppression collar in use today: the electric shock collar, the ultrasonic or subsonic sound collar and the citronella spray collar. The citronella spray collar is the most effective with a success rate of up to 95%. The electric shock collar comes in second place with about a 44% success rate, and the ultrasonic sound collar falls to last place with less than a 40% success rate.

Should I Purchase a Citronella Spray or Electronic Shock Collar?

It has been found that the Citronella Spray collar (88.9% effective) works better than the electronic shock collar (44.4% effective). This was reported by owners of two commercially available anti-barking collars that they put through a two week trial. As can be seen by the numbers, both collars effectivly reduced barking, but the citronella no bark collar was twice as effective as the shock collar.

Most of the participants said they preferred the citronella spray collar, and they felt it was a more humane way to train their pets. They also said that they would use the <a href="http://barkcollarsfordogs.biz/amazon-com" target=_"blank">citronella spray collar for longer periods of time to reduce their dogs’ nuisance barking.

How Does the Collar Work?

The citronella spray collar is a pretty simple device. On the collar, which you fasten around your dogs neck, is a sensing unit and a battery operated canister of citronella spray. When your dog starts barking the sensor activates, sending a signal to the canister controler which sprays a mist of citronella towards the dogs nose.

Dogs do not like the smell of citronella and they will go out of their way to avoid it, this is one reason the collars work so well. The citronella will not hurt your dog, it just distracts and annoys them. After awhile, your dog will realize that when he or she barks that awfull smelling stuff is sprayed at them so doggy will bark less and less. This is a safe, harmless and effective way to control your dogs nuisance barking.

Would I be Getting My Money’s Worth?

The collars are not that expensive and you can often purchase one for less than $30. Many dog owners that have purchased the citronella no bark dog collar say, “because the collars work so good, they are well worth the cost.” I would have gladly spent $30 on one 20 years ago to quiet down my cockapoo, I had to relocate him to protect him from a very nasty neighbor. If $30 or $40 can remedy a big problem, I would have to say it is well worth it…

The collars are adjustable and can be used on any sized dog. You can purchase extra canisters of spray and they should fit perfectly into the collar. If you want to control you dogs excessive barking this is the collar to buy.

Advice On Citronella No-Bark Collars

By Adam Katz

Dear Adam:

I have a client who has just adopted a dog. The dog is adjusting to its new apartment, but is barking a bit when the owner leaves. A friend of hers has lent a citronella collar for her to try.

My question is: Is there any health concerns with using the collar in terms of the spray getting in the eyes or lungs?

I would love to hear about peoples experiences with the collars whether they are negative or positive.

Thank you in advance!!

RD

Dear RD:

They have a tendency to jam up. Not to mention run out of spray. And – although it probably won’t kill the dog – who knows what spraying that stuff in their eyes and nose will do over a long-term period of time.

Ideally, the dog would only need to be sprayed once or twice and then he’d learn to never bark while wearing the collar. But everyone I know seems to go through the refill spray bottles like a worm eats through a discarded balogna sandwich. And this would suggest that the correction from the spray is only motivational enough to get the dog to cease the current exhibition of the behavior, but is not motivational enough to make him remember to not do it later.

I recommend the Tri-Tronics Bark Limiter. It’s a quality product (it gives the dog a mild shock when he barks) and it works very well. Try a web search on google.com.

Good luck,

Adam

P.S. If you’ve already got the Citronella collar… go ahead and try it and see if it works for you. It’s not going to kill the dog overnight. And you may just get lucky and find that one or two sprays will be all that you need to curb the behavior… if your dog has a fairly soft temperament to begin with.

That’s all for now, folks!
I put her in a crate (kennel training) when it’s time for her to go to sleep, and if I am present in the room, (even though i put a sheet over her crate), she knows I’m present and will fall asleep with no barks or whines at all. But, on the other hand if I leave her in the crate, while I’m not present, she will bark and whine and cry FOREVER. What do I do? I can’t go anywhere basically without pissing my sister or my dad off because of the endless crying she does.
Open for suggestions on any other way to prevent her from barking. (Yes I know all the reinforcements, and treats for when she’s quiet BS, I’m talking about something that WORKS.)

im considering buying a shock collar for my dog
she is a weimaraner (large breed)

I want to get one so i can play with her in the large open field near my house thats next to the park without a leash.

Im considering getting one because if she sees people especially little kids she will want to go play with them, she jumps alot so she can knock over little kids… its not an aggression issue

i want to get this so she can have more freedom and so i can enjoy my dog more
…….
and im wondering on which shock collar i should get.. so could someone send me a link to a collar they know and have used that has worked for them…

something with a good range
for large dogs
something cheap not those 200+ collars

i was thinking of
http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2751307&lmdn=Training+%26amp%3B+Behavior#prodTab1 even though its somewhat expensive

and

http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753828&lmdn=Training+%26amp%3B+Behavior#RatingsDetail

P.S to those ppl who say its bad and cruel to get shock collars… im not gonna abuse it i hope to use it as little as possible so she knows she cant go chase after little kids and knock them over…
and dont say go to training classes. i dont have the time and money to do that…. a little shock wont hurt the dog that much…. people who say its barbaric are absurd….
a shock collar is just to redirect the dogs attention, im not using it just to cause pain
