Using dog shock collars?
I bought an indoor pet barrier today that is supposed to deliver a shock everytime the dog comes with in a certain distance of an area.
Is the dog shocked everytime the collar beeps?
Does the shock get stronger the closer he gets to the barrier?
Is it possible for the dog to have a delayed reaction to being shocked? (it appeared that this happened)
One would think that these answers would be in the instruction manual but they are not. Thanks!
I understand the concern regarding shock collars and whether they are humane; however, this is a last resort to try to keep my dog from running out the door and into the run and being hit by a car.
I’m just looking for answers to my questions.

is there not a customer service number you can call and ask?
No one can really answer this.. every manufacturer has thier own models.. and they all may react differently.. for example the beep may be a warning beep before it issues the shock… or it may shock as it beeps
some models may increase the jolt and then reset.. and some may not have that feature.

I would locate the web site for this collar and e-mail that company with your questions. They will be able to tell you all about their product.

I totally disagree with the method. There are less painful ways of how to teach a dog right!

I would guess that the beep is a warning beep. Some of these products are not very reliable as far as giving the correction at the correct time. You might want to go to the product’s website or call the 800 number to get your questions answered. Your instruction booklet should have given you some training information also. To just put these things on the dog and expect the dog to figure out how to turn it off is a really cruel way to train.

I agree with Karen S. This is a horrid way to train your dog. No dog trainer would ever recommend it. You have also purchased something you don’t know how to use or what it’s doing to your dog. Buy a good training book and invest a little time in your dog instead of these cruel methods.
